So if you haven’t noticed by now, we love the weird and wonderful, especially in our entertainment. These last few weeks we’ve seen some interesting and diverse movie choices. Both were viewed on Prime and as of August 2026 they are available to view on the subscription. (in AU, other countries may differ)
First is ‘Project Hail Mary’ which runs for 2hrs 36mins. This is a somewhat slow-paced movie; I’d call it more of a buddy movie than action and although it is based in space the story revolves more around the two main characters. It has an interesting story and tugs at the heart strings in some places. Who’s it for? Some will probably find it boring in that it’s not action packed with more about personal discovery and relationships. Kids would probably like it for Rocky but will probably be bored by the “life” stuff. There is mild conflict but no gore. Which brings me to ‘Nagabandham’.
‘Nagabandham’ runs for 2hrs 50mins. Definitely NOT FOR KIDS. This is an Indian film which has subtitles. I suppose it’s like the superhero version mixed with Indiana Jones style of Indian lore. I recognised some of the gods such as Vishnu and Shiva but not sure what is actual lore or created for the movie. It can be confusing in parts and extreme violence and gore in many confrontations. I found the subtitles got tricky when they spoke fast and we’d miss the last half of the speech. Some parts including fight scenes can be repetitive. The special effects in some parts looked B grade and there was some “Bollywood” style dancing which they always do brilliantly but felt a bit odd given the violence and gore. I’m not sure who the target audience is and perhaps that’s because we aren’t Indian but overall it was an interesting peek into a different culture.
